Every Audi factory radio with a 4-digit code has a serial number starting with AUZ. If you've searched for something like "AUZ2Z3 radio code", you're on the right track, but the first six characters alone aren't enough. Here's what the serial means and how to read it correctly.
What an AUZ serial looks like
An Audi radio serial is 14 characters long, printed on a label on the radio's casing. For example:
| Part | Example | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Make | AUZ | Audi. VW uses VWZ, Škoda SKZ and SEAT SEZ. |
| Prefix | 1Z2, 2Z3 … | Identifies where and how the radio was made. Thousands of radios share each prefix. |
| Unit number | A1234567 | The part that's unique to your radio. The code depends on it. |
So a full serial looks like AUZ1Z2A1234567 or AUZ2Z3A7654321.
AUZ1Z2, AUZ2Z3 and other prefixes
You'll see several prefixes on Audi radios, such as AUZ1Z2, AUZ1Z3, AUZ2Z2 and AUZ2Z3. They're all normal Audi serials and all use the same 4-digit code system. The prefix doesn't tell you the code, and it doesn't reliably tell you the radio model either: a Chorus, Concert or Symphony can carry any of them.
Reading the label without mistakes
Most failed orders come from one misread character. Check these carefully:
- Z or 2? The fifth character is usually a letter Z (as in AUZ1Z2). Look at how the Z in AUZ is printed and compare.
- 0 or O, 1 or I, 8 or B? After the prefix, the serial is mostly digits. If in doubt, it's usually a number.
- Count to 14. AUZ plus 11 more characters. Fewer or more means something's been missed or added.
- Serial, not part number. The part number starts with digits, such as 8E0 035 … or 8P0 035 …. It identifies the radio type, not its code.
The easiest fix is a clear photo of the label: we check the serial against it before working out your code. See where to find your radio serial number for how to get the radio out.

Get my codeNo AUZ on the label?
- VWZ, SKZ or SEZ: the radio came from a VW, Škoda or SEAT. That's fine; order using the prefix on the label.
- No serial label, or a touchscreen saying "Component Protection": it's probably an MMI or MIB system, which doesn't use a 4-digit code. See why MIB radios have no code.
- An aftermarket brand (Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony and so on): it isn't an Audi radio, so an Audi code won't apply.
Once you have the code, here's how to enter it on an Audi Concert (the same TP and RDS method works on most Chorus and Symphony units).
Quick answers
What does AUZ1Z2 or AUZ2Z3 mean on an Audi radio?
They are the first six characters of the 14-character Audi radio serial. AUZ means Audi, and the next three characters identify where the radio was made. Thousands of radios share each prefix, so the code depends on the full serial.
Can I get my Audi radio code from just the AUZ prefix?
No. The code is worked out from all 14 characters of the serial. Read the whole serial from the label, or send a photo of it with your order.
Is the Audi radio serial the same as the part number?
No. The serial starts with AUZ and has 14 characters. The part number starts with digits, such as 8E0 035 or 8P0 035, and identifies the radio type, not its code.
How much is an Audi radio code from the AUZ serial?
£24.99 from RadioUnlock, fixed price, delivered by email in 1–3 hours on average, with a money-back guarantee if the code doesn't work.
