Short answer: no. There's no universal or master code that unlocks every VW, Audi, Škoda or SEAT radio. Each radio has its own 4-digit code, set for the 14-character serial number on its label.
Why people look for one
Search for a "universal radio code" and you'll find lists of codes that supposedly work on any Audi Concert, any RCD 310 or any Škoda Swing. They don't. The code is tied to one specific radio, so a code from a list only works on the radio it was made for.
1000 or 0000 on the screen isn't the code
When you start entering a code, most radios show 1000 or 0000. That's just the starting point for setting the digits with buttons 1–4, not a default code. Confirming it counts as a wrong attempt.
Why trying codes from a list makes things worse
- Two wrong codes usually lock the radio into SAFE 2 for 60 minutes.
- Every lockout means an unbroken hour with the ignition and radio on before you can try again.
- On some units, repeated wrong codes make the wait longer each time.
If your radio is already in SAFE 2, see how to clear the SAFE 2 lockout.
What about free code calculators?
Free calculators and apps try to work the code out from the serial, but for most VW Group radios they guess wrongly, and each wrong guess counts towards a lockout. More detail: free radio code calculators: do they work?
The right way to get your code
- Look for the code card in the service book wallet and check its serial matches your radio. See where to find the radio code card.
- No card? Find the serial on the radio's label. It starts with VWZ, AUZ, SKZ or SEZ. See where to find your radio serial number.
- Order the code for that serial. It's the original code set for your radio, delivered by email in 1–3 hours on average.
Need your code? Original 4-digit code from your radio's serial. VW £19.99, Audi, Škoda and SEAT £24.99. 1–3 hours on average, money-back guarantee.
Get my codeQuick answers
Is there a master code for the Audi Concert or VW RCD 310?
No. Every Concert, RCD 310 and other VW Group radio has its own 4-digit code, set for its serial number. Codes from online lists only work on the radio they belong to.
Is 1000 the default radio code?
No. 1000 or 0000 is just what the display shows when you start entering a code. Confirming it counts as a wrong attempt.
Can a dealer unlock any radio with a universal code?
No. A dealer looks up the code for that particular radio, usually from its serial number or the car's records.
How do I get the right code for my radio?
Check the service book wallet for a code card that matches your radio's serial. If there isn't one, order the code from the 14-character serial on the radio's label.
